200 kW High Performance on the Rail Network: Precision Construction in Six Months

Modular Data Center
In 2024, Germany realized Daterra (formerly FM Service) the new construction of a highly available switching center. The project combines a 200 kW Infrastructure Concept with sustainable energy solutions in a confined space. Despite the complex logistics at an active railway line, a future-proof IT unit was created within a tight timeframe, meeting the highest demands for physical security and technological performance.

Services in the project – seamless management of over 20 trades

The establishment of this location required seamless coordination of all project phases from a single source. As the central authority, Daterra ensured the smooth execution from the initial approval to the handover of the IT areas. The following services were centrally managed:

Project Highlights: Symbiosis of 200 kW Data Center Power and 50 kW Photovoltaics

The technical specifications underscore the high standards of this modern telecommunications site. The heart of the facility is a modular system of precast concrete elements, which combines physical security with a short construction time. A Total output of 200 kilowatts ensures a stable supply, while a partially redundant infrastructure concept ensures operational continuity. To increase energy efficiency, the building integrates a 50 kW photovoltaic system, which serves to cover the baseload. This concept is supplemented by a nationwide Green roof, which acts as natural heat protection and supports the energy balance. The precise expansion of the technical areas up to the final placement of the server racks completes the turnkey modular structure.

Project Management: Ready for Operation Handover in Just Six Months

The realization process followed a precisely timed schedule to ensure full operational readiness within just six months to guarantee. After the building permit was granted, the development and the Civil engineering work the base for subsequent assembly. The time-optimized placement of the concrete components enabled a rapid construction of the building shell, while the solar technology and green roof were installed in parallel. The final step was the technical integration of the electrical systems, which ensured the timely completion of the entire site.

Special Challenges: High-Pressure Operational Performance

In addition to the tight schedule, complex location factors shaped the implementation and underlined Daterra's operational resilience. The immediate proximity to active railway lines brought with it an increased threat level, which required a circulating protective scaffolding as well as permanent monitoring by a Safety and Health Coordinator required. In addition, the tight space conditions On the premises, precise timing of deliveries. strict logistical control ensured that the various trades could operate simultaneously without mutual restrictions in order to achieve the turnkey handover in compliance with all safety regulations.
